I was awakened by
the gentle tapping on my door by housekeeping at exactly 9:00 am. Well so much for sleeping in. I was actually awake and just lying there so
I got up and performed my testing in my room then left to do my COVID test, and
then walked slowly to the gym to get my workout out of the way. The gym wasn’t open until 10:15am after the
cleaning that closed it from 9:00 am until then. When I entered, I was the
fourth person so the fitness center was at full capacity, or so I thought.
I worked out for
about fifteen minutes until the door opened and in walked another user. I recognized the individual. About a month ago I had befriended him when
we watched a rocket launch. I had also turned him on to a satellite tracking
app my brother had introduced me to. He
brought our occupant count to five and he continued to ready himself for his
workout. He didn’t seem concerned at all
about the occupancy load. And here is
the kicker. He is an NBA Security
officer. I asked him if having five in
here at a time was okay and he said he wasn’t going to enforce the rule because
he thought it was stupid. That was good
enough for me as I wasn’t going to leave, but now I wondered how many rules
laid down by the NBA were subjective.
During my workout
I received an email about the possibility of golfing. Here is the letter in total:
Hi, I
know there have been inquiries about playing golf on off days; the availability
is extremely limited; however, I will continue to try to get tee times!
I wanted
to pass along some information regarding driving range access. Please be
sure to read through all the details below.
At least 48hour noticed is required due to coordinating with
security and transportation (limited availability; more advanced the better) 6:30pm-8pm
Max 30 people $250 group flat rate plus food and beverages
Payment: no individual payments. One credit card will be
charged $250 and will be kept on file for any food and beverage charges.
Attached is the food and beverage menu

request to check availability. Will need to know a list of people as well
as who is providing the credit card.
Thank you
It is clear that I will not be going to the driving range for the
remainder of this trip. Two hundred and
fifty bucks to whack balls for an hour and a half? I know that is up to thirty people but there
are only a couple of us that want to do this.
I will pass on this option and remain a whiffle and pickle baller.
We had a tremendous storm hit today. I was out at the pool when large drops
started randomly falling. Others around
me started gathering their belongings as one of referees, with wine in hand,
shouted that according to his weather app a big storm was on its way. I hustled to get my stuff together and made a
bee line for my room. By now, the drops
were getting bigger and bigger and falling more frequently. Shortly, the rain was falling in sheets and
thunder and lightning filled the sky.
The storms come in quickly here!
When I got settled in my room, I propped my door open and listened
to the inclement weather, then put on an episode of Shameless. The temperature outside had dropped at least
twenty degrees but it was still quite muggy.
Still, it was perfect weather to kick back and watch television while
the storm continued outside. This lasted
for about two hours and I appreciated the change from the heat and humidity
that at time could be relentless.
The rest of my day was spent watching games from my room as the
Bucks went down three games against Miami.
No team has come back from a three nothing deficit so I will make a bold
prediction that the Heat will be playing for the Eastern Conference
championship. The Lakers, heavy
favorites against the exhausted Rockets who just completed their seven games
series against OKC, fell in their opening second round game as Harden was on
fire and the rest of the Houston team defeated Los Angeles pretty easily.
