I slept until
about ten before a knock on the door awakened me. Housekeeping wanted is but I managed to delay
that for a couple of hours because I got sucked into a few more Shameless
episodes. That series is so excellently done because it is so depressing and
then something good happens only to be disappointed with another
knockdown. I’m addicted now but it has
started to leave me in a downward funk if I watch too many episodes in a row.
A group text came
out for a 12:30 pm whiffle ball game. No game for me today so I was looking
forward to a little outdoor activity but doubted very many people would show
but I reported faithfully at 12:30. And
I was alone. I waited and eventually a
few more guys showed up at 1245 but hardly enough for a decent game. We needed at least three to a team for it to
work properly. I decided to hold out
until 1 before I gave up and went to lunch.
Lunch at 1 it was.
Lots of families
were at the dining area today. It
appeared that more and more were being released from quarantine but there still
weren’t as many as I thought would turn up.
I really appreciated them being here because the food had improved
tenfold since their arrival. I can’t get
enough of the custom made salads that are provided. They are build your own but an attendant
builds them for you. I think I have a
better chance now to drop some of the extra pounds that have somehow found
their way to my midsection.
After a couple
more damn Shameless episodes I worked my way over to the gym because I was a
slacker in the morning and I had to get my reps in. I hadn’t worked out in the afternoon since my
arrival as I much prefer to do that in the morning. Apparently no one likes to
work out in the afternoon because I had the whole place to myself. The Milwaukee Miami game was on the
televisions in each corner and I had full access to everything enabling me to
complete my workout rather quickly.
During the game, Giannis Antetokounmpo went down with another ankle
injury and I was confident that would be the end of the road for the Bucks, but
the team pulled out a thriller in the end and lived to play another game. I, of course, was disappointed hoping for
eliminations whenever possible. Let’s
get to the conference finals as soon as possible.
We had another
whiffle ball games planned at 6:00pm so I cruised back to my room to kill an
hour watching one more addicting yet depressing episode of Shameless. To my surprise the housekeeper left three
towels on one of my beds wrapped tightly in the form of a Mickey Mouse head. I
was so excited that I called out to one of my buddies walking by to come take a
look. When he looked he said that
happened in his room all time and he was hoping they might change the design to
another Disney character one day. I had
been here close to two months and this was the first time I had received that
little gift, but others had been getting it all the time. My balloon was
deflated.
I readied myself
to head to COVID Field for our late afternoon contest but retreated after a
huge bolt of lightning stuck nearby immediately followed by some very loud
thunder. The rain followed for a steady
three hours accompanied every so often with additional sight and sound
components. See how flowery I can express myself it I choose to? Yes, it thundered and lightning for the
duration of the storm.
A quick dinner
was in order and more Shameless episodes as well. I have watched and witnessed enough
basketball during this time that I didn’t tune in to the Lakers Rockets game
until very near the end. Even though I
was raised in Southern California I was pulling for Houston to go up two zero
but it was not to be. The Lakers held off a late game challenge by the Rockets
and tied the series at one. My last
chance for at least one sweep in the second round went down the drain and out
to sea. Looks like I may have to put my
broom away until the conference championships.
